CHRISTIANSBURG — Christiansburg used a 29-point third quarter to protect their home court Thursday night.
Matt Collins scored 10 of his game-high 16 points in the period, leading the Blue Demons past Alleghany, 68-54.
The Mountaineers, who trailed 19-6 after the opening quarter, trailed by just one at the half, 27-26.
Jayson Easton netted 15 points to lead Alleghany, while Triston Hensley scored 14.
Chris Calloway added 13 points for Christiansburg, while M.J. Hunter had 11.
The Blue Demons, coached by Alleghany High School graduate, Michael Hunter, are now 10-1 on the year with their lone loss coming to Liberty Christian Academy in the Northside Tournament last week.
Alleghany (1-0 TRD, 6-4 overall) will play an important TRD and Class 2, Region C pod game on Monday night at home against Floyd County.
Christiansburg was a 55-17 winner in Thursday’s junior varsity game.
Jacob Moles scored 22 points for the winners and Austin Purcell added 11.
Garrett Via and McKinley Goodbar led the Mountaineers with four points each, Coree Nicely added three and Tyler Simmons, Mason Kinsey and Dylan Nicely all had two.
Christiansburg led 33-7 at the halftime break.
