It was a busy and productive week as House Republicans continued delivering results for the American people. For far too long, illegal immigrants who have broken our laws were counted in the census, skewing congressional representation at the direction of the President. That changed last week when the Commerce Department took decisive action to ensure only American citizens are counted for congressional districts. I also had the opportunity to join the Inside the Beltway podcast, where I shared more about the One Big Beautiful Bill and the Rescissions package. Last week also marked the 200th day of President Trump’s return to office, an important milestone to cap off major victories for the American people. Back home, my district office helped a constituent finally secure their 2023 tax refund, a reminder that we are always here to serve. I was also proud to honor Tim Williams for his years of dedicated service to our local community. As we head into another week, I look forward to traveling throughout the Shenandoah Valley and Roanoke, meeting with folks who are working hard to strengthen their communities and move Virginia forward.
Making the Census Fair Again
Counting illegal immigrants in the U.S. Census undermines the very foundation of our representative government. It dilutes the voices of American citizens and rewards states that openly defy immigration law. Congressional districts should be drawn based on the number of citizens, not illegal aliens. That’s just common sense.
Only Americans should be counted when it comes to representation, and only Americans should have the sacred privilege of voting in our elections. That’s why I was proud to vote for the SAVE Act, which ensures that only U.S. citizens can cast a ballot in federal elections. This is about protecting the integrity of our democratic process and making sure every legal vote counts. Last week, President Trump took another bold step by directing the U.S. Commerce Department to create a new census that excludes individuals in the country illegally. I fully support this direction of the President; it’s a necessary correction that puts American citizens first and ensures our government reflects the people it’s meant to serve. The bottom line is simple: your voice, your vote, and your representation in Congress should never be watered down by those who broke the law to enter this country.
Joining the Inside the Beltway Podcast
Recently, I had the opportunity to join the Inside the Beltway podcast, where we discussed the important work that House Republicans are undertaking in Congress to put our nation on the right path. One key topic was the rescission relief package newly signed into law by President Trump which represents a significant step toward restoring fiscal responsibility in Washington. We also delved deeper into the One Big Beautiful Bill, legislation which brings tangible relief to the Sixth District, particularly for our hardworking farmers. This legislation includes crucial reforms to the death tax, which has long posed an unfair burden on families inheriting farmland. For too long, family farms have struggled to cope with this excessive tax, often forced to sell cherished land simply to pay Uncle Sam.
With the One Big Beautiful Bill, over two million family farms will now be protected from disproportionate taxation, ensuring that these farms can remain in the family for generations rather than being sold to the highest bidder. Furthermore, this bill makes targeted investments in livestock biosecurity, safeguarding our food supply against foreign animal diseases, and expanding market access for specialty crops. House Republicans are committed to ensuring that American agriculture not only remains the best in the world but continues to thrive for future generations.
The Sixth District has experienced firsthand how overwhelming red tape and exorbitant taxes have complicated the process of passing down family farms. We understand the vital importance of protecting the safety of our communities, especially along the I-81 corridor. The One Big Beautiful Bill addresses these issues on multiple fronts. Our America First principles are becoming a reality, not just rhetoric. In Congress, I will continue to advocate for commonsense legislation that fortifies our rural communities, supports our farmers, and ensures the safety of the Sixth District.
200 Days of Results: Trump Delivers for America
President Trump has delivered on one promise after the other, moving at record speed to get results. He signed the One Big Beautiful Bill into law to cut taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security and extend his tax cuts for working families. Border security is stronger than ever, with just 4,399 apprehensions last month and zero releases into the U.S. His administration has already rescued over 13,000 migrant children the Biden administration lost track of. President Trump has secured eight major trade deals, including with the EU, China, and the UK to put America first and fix broken policies.
He has cut red tape at a 10 to 1 rate and rolled back Biden’s handouts to foreign wind companies. Gas prices are at a 20-year low, and crime is dropping fast as we deport thousands of violent illegal immigrants. NATO allies are now stepping up with a historic 5 percent defense spending commitment. The White House also launched a plan to ensure American dominance in AI and moved forward with the Golden Dome missile defense system. From defending religious freedom in the workplace to hiring based on merit, this administration is proving that promises made are promises kept.
Casework Highlight
A constituent from Shenandoah County reached out to my district office after not receiving their 2023 federal tax refund. Despite filing on time, the individual had not received any updates and grew concerned as the months and years passed. Our team began working on the case and contacted the IRS on their behalf. My staff was able to secure the constituent’s refund which was issued in April of this year in the amount of $12,771.79, which included over $900 in taxable interest due to the delay.
