COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Kars Unlimited is paying tribute to long-time area resident and a special veteran, John Willard Owens, on Saturday, May 24th as they hold their 5th annual Veterans in the Park at the Jackson River Sports Complex to kick off the Memorial Day weekend celebration.

John Owens served his country as a Staff Sargent in the United States Army during World War II and, at the time of his passing on October 25, 2024, Owens was the oldest member of Curtis A. Smith VFW Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Owens was employed as a pipefitter by Westvaco for a
number of years and was a very active member of Moss Run Baptist Church where he served as a former deacon, Sunday school teacher and song leader.

Please come join us on this special day to honor this very special veteran and to say “thank you” to all veterans and pay tribute to those who are no longer with house. To all local veterans we encourage you to bring family and friends to see the cars, listen to the music of the DJ, celebrate our veterans and enjoy activities throughout the day.

To make the day even more special, John Owens’ son will be singing the National Anthem to honor his father and all veterans. Please come for this special day.
