COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – On May 5, 2025, at approximately 11:43 am, the Covington Division of Police responded to a call at the Exxon on Durant Road for a motor vehicle that had crashed into the store. When officers arrived, they observed a red Ford Ranger that had collided with the front of the building.

The driver was identified as Jacob Lee Elmore, a resident of Alleghany County. Mr. Elmore appeared disoriented, and officers detected the smell of marijuana emanating from his person. Mr. Elmore was placed through field sobriety tests and subsequently arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs (DUID).

Mr. Elmore was held in the Alleghany Regional Jail overnight and is scheduled to appear before a judge for a bond hearing. There were no injuries sustained during the crash. At this time there is no further information to release.
