BUCHANAN, Va. (VR) – The Alleghany JV Cougars pulled off a solid 9-7 win against James River High School on Thursday in a game that went back and forth all night.

James River came out strong in the first inning, scoring two runs thanks to a walk and a hit down the right field line. But the Cougars weren’t rattled—they came back in the third inning and took the lead 3-2 after an error helped bring in some runs.

James River didn’t stay down for long, though. They answered right back in the bottom of the third with a single to center and another Cougars error to go up 4-3.

That’s when Alleghany kicked it into gear. In the fourth inning, they took full advantage of some James River mistakes. Analiese Webb crushed a double to left, a wild pitch brought in another run, and Callie Uzzell hit a sac fly to help the Cougars put four runs on the board and take control of the game.

Maddy Lowry pitched the whole game for Alleghany and came away with the win. She gave up 8 hits and 7 runs, but only 4 were earned. She also struck out 9 and walked just one.

Webb had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-3 and driving in a run. Abby Patterson, Brooklyn Taylor, and Ally Cottrell also each brought in a run.

James River had some offense going too—Robinson, Cash, and Thomas all had two hits, and four players knocked in runs. Robinson pitched the full game for them as well but ended up with the loss.It was a hard-fought game, but Alleghany made the plays when it counted and came out on top. Solid team win for the cougars
