ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (VR) – After hosting Eastern Mennonite in a four-set slug fest last night, the Hollins volleyball team had a short turnaround when Shenandoah came to the main gym on Saturday morning. The Hornets defeated Roanoke College 3-1 last night in Salem and came into the matchup just outside the top five in the most current Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) standings. The Hornets enjoyed a 42-28 edge on attacks and a 10-1 advantage in service aces to pick up the 3-0 ODAC win over Hollins.

Highlights

  • Hollins fell to the Hornets 20-25, 20-25, 14-25.
  • The Green and Gold used a 7-0 surge to open an early advantage. However, Shenandoah immediately answered with a 9-0 run and used that momentum to take the opening frame, 25-20.
  • A 4-0 start shortly followed by a 5-0 run allowed the visitors to control play on their way to a 2-0 lead.
  • Hollins raced out to a 5-1 lead only to see another Hornet 9-0 run give the Hornets more than enough as Shenandoah picked up their second ODAC win in as many days on their trip to the Roanoke Valley.
  • Bella Schultz led the Hollins attack with seven kills while Norah Madrey and Cassidy Henderson each finished with six. Laken Tingler handed out 20 assists and Henderson served HU’s lone ace.
  • Henderson registered four blocks with Madrey adding three and Aliyah Lightsey finished with two. Meredith Crawley led the back row with 15 digs.

Up Next: Hollins will step out of the conference on Tuesday when they play host to Mary Baldwin at 6:30pm in the main gym.
