COVINGTON, Va. (VR) — Following a school year that has seen disruptions due to inclement weather and other unforeseen factors, Callaghan Elementary School will need to implement an adjustment to its start time today. Effective immediately, the school day will begin 5 minutes earlier than the regularly scheduled time due to a necessary closure on April 9 for lack of electricity and heat.

In an effort to meet Virginia instruction standards and maintain consistency across the school division after previous weather-related and other closures, Callaghan Elementary will align its schedule with the adjustments previously implemented at Mountain View Elementary School and Sharon Elementary School. This will involve moving the tardy bell 5 minutes forward for the remainder of the school year.

This change does not affect bus routes.

The adjusted start time for Callaghan Elementary School beginning Thursday, April 10, will be 8:05 a.m.

Alleghany Highlands Public Schools appreciates the ongoing flexibility and understanding of students’ families as the school division works to provide consistent instruction despite the various challenges it has faced this school year.
