SALEM, Va. (VR) –  District 6 President, Kathy Voss, put an SOS to all posts auxiliaries in her district and they all heeded the call to help veterans at Salem Veterans Hospital by gathering shampoo, conditioner and body wash. It’s amazing what can happen in a week. There are four auxiliaries in District 6; Post 776 in Radford, VA., Post 1033 in Covington. VA., Post 1841 in Daleville, VA., and Post 1264 in Roanoke.

VA. Post 1264 was the host auxiliary for the District Convention for the comrades and auxiliaries on April 5th.

The auxiliary members of Curtis A Smith VFW Post 1033 donated over $300 in shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap. Way to go Post 1033.

The SUDS PROJECT is part of the Salem VA Health Care System’s Civic Engagement. The Medical Center is always seeking to improve the comfort and quality of life for the Veterans hospitalized in their facility. One of the projects they are doing now is the Compassionate Contact Corp which is a
program to train volunteers to call those veterans who are socially isolated once a week to keep in touch. The hospital will provide training, and the volunteer does not have to leave the comfort of their home.

An ongoing project they do is Newspapers for Vets Program. This is a fund that collects donations to help veterans in their Community Living Center (CLC) to receive the Roanoke Times and keep up with what is happening in their area.

If you have any questions about these projects, please contact our Hospital Chairman, Loretta Lambert, at 540-691-5890 or Lorettashinault@aol.com.
