LOW MOOR – It was a senior night to remember as Alleghany blew out James River 68-37 on Monday evening in a Three Rivers District showdown in Low Moor.

Alleghany controlled the pace of the game from the opening tip and pushed their lead to double digits by the end of the first quarter. In the final minute two 3-pointers from sophomore Talyn Elliott gave the Cougars a 22-11 lead.

The Cougars dominance rolled over into the second quarter where their lead increased to a high of 24-points when senior Nick Frye dropped in a layup with just over a minute remaining in the first half. AHS led 39-20 at intermission.

It was more of the same in the second half, in the third quarter Alleghany maintaining the control of the game furthered their lead when junior Tucker Phillips knocked down a 3-pointer which gave the Cougars their then largest lead of 25 points.

The route would continue into the fourth quarter where Alleghany took their biggest lead of the game coming on the highlight of the night when senior Xzavier Hayslett lobbed a near no-look pass to classmate Chase DePriest who finished off the alley-oop with a thunderous slam dunk. The dunk pushed the Cougars to their largest lead of the game at 35 points.

DePriest led the way in scoring with a game-high 17 points, while fellow senior Eli Entsminger added 12.

Prior to the game DePriest, Entsminger, Frye, Hayslett, and James Ross were all honored for senior night.

James River was led by Jack Beheler who scored a team-high 14 points.

Alleghany (15-8, 7-5 Three Rivers) wrapped up their regular season on Tuesday with a 67-50 loss on the road to Carroll County. The Cougars now await their seeding for the Class 3, Region C tournament. AHS is projected to be a 6-7 seed and will host a home first-round game on Friday. Their opponent is TBD.

James River 11 9 9 8 – 37

Alleghany 22 17 15 14 – 68
