ROANOKE — An Alleghany County sheriff’s deputy was seriously injured Tuesday in an accident on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County.
Sheriff Kevin Hall said Dep. Jeremy Morris was en route to Covington when the accident occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m.
Morris had transported a dog to a veterinarian in Roanoke for emergency treatment.
While returning to Covington, Morris was involved in a two-vehicle accident. He was traveling in the northbound lane of I-81.
Hall said Morris sustained serious, but not life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
Virginia State Police investigated the incident and charged the driver of the second vehicle with a traffic violation, Sheriff Hall said.
The accident occurred at mile marker 147.5 near the Hollins exit on I-81.
