COVINGTON — Residents from across the Alleghany Highlands gathered Friday morning to celebrate Juneteenth with a community event featuring history, entertainment, food and family activities.
Marie Fitzpatrick opened the program by delivering the mission statement, while Rev. Timothy Preston provided a history of Juneteenth and its significance.
The event included poetry readings and a “Did You Know?” history presentation highlighting the impact of Black entrepreneurship in Covington. The Soul Rhythm Line Dancers also performed for those in attendance.
Children and families enjoyed bounce houses and laser tag throughout the event, while free food was available for guests. The fish proved to be a popular choice among attendees.
The celebration was well attended and offered an opportunity for the community to come together while recognizing the importance of Juneteenth and local Black history.
