COVINGTON, VA (VIRGINIAN REVIEW) – Susan Shiflett Wolfe, a second-generation resident of Covington, has announced her candidacy for the 4th District seat currently held by Thomas S. Sibold. Wolfe, known for her commitment to family and community, aims to bring fresh perspectives and dedicated leadership to the city council.
Raised in Covington, Wolfe has deep roots in the community. She has devoted her life to family and education, earning an Associate Degree in Business from Dabney S. Lancaster Community College. Wolfe’s career includes working at the Covington City Parks & Recreation Department from 1996 to 2001, where she became a familiar face through her involvement in youth sports activities.
Wolfe is passionate about community service and youth engagement, emphasizing the importance of creating a nurturing environment for children. “I have always believed that our children come first,” she said. “My home has been a sanctuary for those in need, offering a place to stay, help with homework, or a hot meal.”
Her platform focuses on several key areas to enhance Covington’s community:
Governmental Transparency: Wolfe advocates for open government through regular public forums and accessible online resources to foster trust and accountability.
Youth Programs: She plans to expand programs beyond athletics to include arts, technology, and community service, empowering youth with diverse skills.
Diverse Businesses: Wolfe aims to attract a variety of businesses, reflecting Covington’s unique character, to create jobs and stimulate economic growth.
Community Collaboration: She believes in the power of partnerships between the city, local organizations, and businesses to address community challenges and improve quality of life.
Wolfe, inspired by her family’s dedication to coaching and community involvement, is ready to take on the challenges facing Covington. Her other half, Matthew Hillmer, has coached basketball for over 29 years, and her late brother, Dickie Shiflett, coached in three different youth sports programs. Wolfe’s experience handling financial responsibilities demonstrates her ability to manage taxpayers’ money wisely.
“As a long-time resident, I see the issues that our current council and city government seem tone-deaf to,” Wolfe stated. “Our community needs leaders who are willing to listen and take action.”
Wolfe invites the citizens of Covington to join her in building a brighter future. “In November, I ask for your vote. It would be an honor and privilege to serve as your new District 4 Councilperson. Our community needs a change, and I am ready to be that change.”
Wolfe’s candidacy promises a new era of leadership, fostering a stronger union between citizens and city government. Her dedication to community service, transparency, and collaboration aims to create a thriving Covington for generations to come.
