WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. – Opal Ruth Byers Henson, 96, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., passed away Tuesday night, January 5, 2010.

Born at Alvon, W.Va., July 8, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Anna R. Seldomridge Fogus.

Mrs. Henson was of the Methodist faith. She was a homemaker and loved gardening. She raised a garden until she was 90 years old.

Preceding her in death other than mother was her husband, Thomas Henson, in 1985.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie Raye-Chizzini of Palm Coast, Fla., and Sadie H. Ambrose and her husband, Mike of St. Mary’s, Ga.; four grandchildren, Lisa Raye Finnegan of Arlington, Julie Ambrose Streit of Bolder, Colo., Stephen Michael Ambrose of St. Simon, Ga., and John Thomas Ambrose of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Sadie and Gavin Streit, and Ryan Finnegan.

A funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Shanklin Funeral Home with the Rev. Brent Sturm, O.S.L. officiating. Visitation will be two hours before the service at the funeral home.

Entombment in Rosewood Mausoleum will be at a later date.

Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs, is serving the family.
