Ira C. Curry, 73, of 2505 Midland Trail, died Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 3, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Curry was born March 25, 1936, in Bath County a son of the late Ocie Billy Curry and Hallie Thompson Curry.
He was a supervisor at the former H. O. Canfield plant in Iron Gate and retired from Pantasote,Inc. in 1979. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Ira was an avid outdoorsman for all of his life.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Rosemary Simpson Curry, of Covington; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and J. B. Broughman of Covington; three sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny and Andrea Curry of Eagle Rock, James and Pamela Curry of Holdenwald, Tenn., and Mitchell and April Curry of Dover, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Walter Curry and his wife, Margaret, of Hopewell; two sisters, Frances Ferris and her husband, Richard, of Salem, and Ruby Jane Gordon of Hot Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Mason officiating assisted by the Rev. J. B. Broughman. Interment will be in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Casey Curry, Mikel Curry, James Curry Jr., Ryan Curry, Ray Keen Sr., Donnie Martin, C.W. Markham and Dave Mann.
Alternate pallbearers will be Ray Keen Jr, Calvin Fridley and Terry Simpson.
Friends may pay their respects at any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
