Dear Sir,
I am concerned for Bath County’s future.
As you read this, think of the people in the county that you depend on and trust to give you guidance, information or advice.
Who do you think of? Do you think of the sheriff’s office, the treasurer, clerk’s office, commissioner’s office or even the commonwealth’s attorney?
The state has issued a mandatory budget cut in the amount of $45,600.
This cut equates to $2,400 per person for the 19 positions affected.
The state has and continues to fund a large portion of these offices’ salaries. The county can – and should – pick up this amount to maintain salaries of the staff within.
This budget cut could mean a reduction in service to the community. The Bath County citizens should be very concerned!
I believe the board has made many decisions in retrospect they may like to reconsider. I am just hoping that they may reflect upon this situation and reconsider before it is too late.
As you contemplate what you just read, I ask that you think about this.
Our board of supervisors voted not to fund these recent cuts during their 6 p.m. closed work session. However after the meeting was adjourned, they held a late night closed work session and voted to promote and give an additional $8,433 to a county employee. This amount with benefits will amount to about $9,500 for one person.
I am asking that the Bath County Board of Supervisors reconsider their position. Please do not jeopardize community service and the livelihood of the servants to the community, our neighbors and friends.
Sincerely,
Angel M. Grimm
Millboro
