West Virginia did yesterday what Virginia had done on March 23.
Governor Jim Justice announced the closure of schools for the remainder of the year.
The West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission followed the governor’s decision with an expected response.
“The WVSSAC has canceled the boys and girls state basketball tournaments as well as the spring sports of tennis, track, softball and baseball,” the release said. “This is an extremely difficult time for our students, coaches, schools and communities. West Virginians are a resilient group who will overcome this virus and all problems that come with it.”
The state basketball tournament was suspended on March 12 following a Thursday morning session at the Charleston Civic Center.
Governor Justice coaches the girls basketball team at Greenbrier East High School, who was set to compete in the Group AAA state tournament.
