LOW MOOR, Va. (VR) – On April 18, 2026 at approximately 5:30 pm the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office was notified by Florida law enforcement (Bay County Sheriff’s Office) that they had warrants on file for a suspect in an attempted murder case. Their investigation led them to pinging the cellular phone of the suspect (Amy Brown of Panama City, Florida) to an area near Low Moor and provided dispatch with the details of the suspect.

Deputies immediately began to canvas the area and located the suspects vehicle in the parking lot of the Travel Lodge. Deputies made contact with the manager and it was confirmed that Brown checked into the hotel at 2:40 pm. Deputies immediately called for a lock down of Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital and the Brian Center Nursing facility as well as Penny’s Diner which is located in the immediate area of the hotel. The hotel was evacuated as well.

Emergency Response Team was activated while search warrants were obtained. A negotiator attempted to make contact with Brown but was unsuccessful. Further attempts by the negotiator led to Brown giving up without resistance. Brown was taken into custody and transported to the Alleghany Regional Jail, where she is being held until authorities from Florida are able to interview her. The scene was processed by Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office investigators and the incident remains under investigation.

No other details are available to be released at this time.
