Robert Lewis “Whiteye” Clark, Sr.
Robert Lewis “Whiteye” Clark, Sr., age 86, of 98 Wintergreen Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family following 26 years of a battle with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, variant PLS.
Whiteye was born on October 21, 1937 in Iron Gate, Virginia to the late Louis Lemmie Clark and Beulah Marie Knick Clark. He was an A-Class Mechanic for Hercules, Inc. in Covington and served in the Virginia National Guard. He was a lifetime member of the Iron Gate Methodist Church, holding various positions, including singing in the choir. He enjoyed life fully, always greeting others with a smile on his face. Hunting, fishing, golf, antiquing, and restoring old cars and farm tractors were just a few of his many pleasures.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Taylor Clark and Alvin James Clark; two sisters, Frances Ileta Bartlett and Ellen Bernice Murphy; and a nephew, Jack H. Bartlett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Sharon McCormick Clark of Clifton Forge; a son, Dr. Robert Lewis Clark, Jr. and wife Cherith; 2 grandchildren, Robert Lewis “Trey” Clark III and Amelia Clark Knudsen and husband Ian; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Scott Brown, Jim Bay, RN, and Alyssa Rexrode, CNA, of Intrepid Hospice for their compassion and excellent care.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Virgil Woodie officiating. The family will visit with friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
