LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany will suspend ICU services at the Low Moor hospital beginning today. Below is a statement from Will Windham, CEO of LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany.
Message from LewisGale Health System:
To Our Community Partners,
As the COVID-19 epidemic continues, we are making preparations across the LewisGale Health System to ensure we are ready to take care of our community. One of those strategies is the consolidation and conservation of resources throughout the health system which allows us to shift physicians, clinical caregivers, and personal protective equipment (PPE) to our other facilities while we manage the COVID-19 health care crisis.
To that end, on Monday, April 20 at 7 a.m. we will temporarily suspend ICU services at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany. Individual patient care plans have been developed to ensure care coordination including transfer to LewisGale Medical Center or discharge.
All other services at LewisGale Hospital Alleghany remain open to care for our community.
In addition, as we’ve learned from regional and national experts that it may be beneficial to centralize the care for patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 or who are on a ventilator and waiting for test results, LewisGale Health System will now cohort these patients at LewisGale Medical Center. By cohorting COVID-19 patients, we are able to better protect our caregivers by facilitating allocation and deployment of PPE and better protect our patients by managing the use of essential medical equipment like ventilators.
Thank you for all you do as a partner in serving our community.
Sincerely,
Will
