Dear Editor,
I am writing in response to Mr. John Stec’s letter, and I sincerely admire his writing ability!
Let me suggest we start on the other side of the abortion issue. If we improve education about and availability of birth control, abortions would practically disappear! Mother Nature has shown us how firmly she is in control.
Women and men, girls and boys will continue to have sex that will sometimes cause unwanted pregnancy. “Sometimes” becomes “often” when knowledge of and access to contraception is unavailable.
We can choose to dedicate our energy and skills to work with local and national organizations (such as Planned Parenthood) improving knowledge and access for those who want and need it.
I think this is a way to improve our communities, greatly reduce the number of abortions and relax some of the hostility.
Sincerely,
Steve Swoope – Olive Street, Clifton Forge
