Dear Editor,
I would like to publicly recognize a recent event orchestrated by a team who worked to provide our Covington High School Class of 2020 receive the noted recognition that reaching a milestone in life’s journey merits.
On behalf of Covington City Public Schools and exclusively the Covington High School Class of 2020, sincere thanks and gratitude goes to:
• Mr. Derek Cantrell, CHS principal and the CHS staff;
• Mr. Allen Dressler, director of Parks and Public Works;
• Ms. Krystal Onaitis, city manager;
• Mr. Tom Sibold, mayor;
• Covington City Council members who made it possible for our seniors to be recognized in their graduation ceremony held at the River Rock Amphitheatre on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13, 2020.
The public celebration of these young adults recognized this milestone in their life journey and encouraged them to set goals, work hard and persevere through adversities.
During this year, the CHS Class of 2020 endured experiences in which no other CHS graduating class encountered. These graduates have proven their resilience through our country’s Coronavirus pandemic by meeting the challenges.
This team supported these graduates by providing a memorable experience that will be etched in their life’s story. The setting at the River Rock Amphitheatre was an excellent venue to make this graduation ceremony come to fruition and to maintain the health and safety directives.
We are very fortunate to have a community who continuously supports our schools in numerous ways.
Again, many thanks to those who embraced the importance of recognizing the achievements of our CHS Class of 2020.
Sincerely,
Melinda Snead-Johnson
Division Superintendent Covington City Public Schools
