Benjamin Lanier “Benny” Hubbard, Sr.
Mr. Benjamin Lanier “Benny” Hubbard, Sr., age 90, of Covington, died Thursday, December 28, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of Nancy Persinger Hubbard.
Mr. Hubbard was born August 29, 1933, in Sweet Springs, WV, the son of the late Murray Arthur Hubbard and Minnie Mentz Hubbard. Benny served his country as a member of the United States Army. During his working career, he was the owner and operator of several different businesses in this community. Mr. Hubbard loved to farm, enjoyed hunting as well as socializing with family and friends in his spare time. He was a member of Church of God Of Prophecy where he served his church as a deacon.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Hubbard is survived by two sons, Benjamin Lanier Hubbard, Jr. and wife, Denise of Covington and Timothy Wayne Hubbard of Covington; a daughter, Anita H. Simmons and husband, Douglas of Covington; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; three sisters, Grace Colier of Oregon, Una Kelley of Covington and Pat Jones of Clifton Forge; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by two brothers, John Hubbard and Aruthor Hubbard and three sisters, Ester Hubbard, Virginia Carter and Barbara Peterson.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Pastor Curtis Stump officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Darius Kitt, Nathan Lee, Doug Simmons, Jimmy Gilbert, Ricky Chittum and Terry Nida. Honorary pallbearers will be Dabney Pasco, Stuart Johnson, Alvin Nida, Jayden Hubbard, Dylan Atkinson, Richard Brookman and Shorty Wolfe.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at Loving Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Church of God of Prophecy, 1262 S. Lexington Avenue, Covington VA 24426.
