Josephine Nicely and Nicole Nicely
Josephine Ann Reynolds Nicely, age 74, of 932 Commercial Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at the Alleghany Health and Rehabilitation Center in Clifton Forge.
Josephine was born on October 16, 1949 in Alleghany County, Virginia to the late Joseph Ivan Reynolds and Margaret Lelida Mae Wright Reynolds. She was retired from the Dietary Department of Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge and attended Lighthouse Pentacostal Holiness Church. She enjoyed singing, playing piano, cooking, and was well known for her wonderful biscuits and fruitcakes. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Girard Nicely, Sr.; a son, Walter G. Nicely, Jr.; a daughter, Christine Burch; four sisters, Mary R. Asbury, Gloria K. Gibson, Patricia R. Smith, and Evelyn R. Brooks; and a brother, Ollie Truman Reynolds.
Josephine is survived by a nephew, Casey Gibson and wife Kim of Covington; two brothers, John Reynolds of Waynesboro and Joseph Reynolds of Millboro; a sister-in-law, Rose Nicely of Clifton Forge; grandchildren, Crystal Nicely of Clifton Forge, Benjamin Nicely of Clifton Forge, Christopher Nicely of Covington, Alana Burch of Clifton Forge, and Leighton Gibson of Covington; and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Her daughter, Nicole “Nickie” Renee Nicely, age 46, died on Sunday, December 17th at the University of Virginia Medical Center following an extended illness. Nickie was born June, 18, 1977 in Clifton Forge and was a Licensed Practical Nurse for Alleghany Regional Hospital. She was a fan of UVA Football and loved her pets, especially her “Tilly Renee”.
Preceding Nickie in death were her parents, Walter and Josephine Nicely; brother, Walter Nicely, Jr.; and sister, Christine Burch.
Nickie’s survivors include uncles, Joseph Reynolds and John Reynolds; aunt, Rose Nicely; cousin, Casey and Kim Gibson; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special niece Crystal Nicely of Clifton Forge. In keeping with her wishes, her body will be cremated and she will be placed with her mother, Josephine.
A funeral service for Josephine and Nickie will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Mr. Chris Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Church, Clifton Forge. The family will visit with friends on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
