James “Cheez Claus” Smith is set up on the corner of Pine Street Baptist Church today collecting toys for kids for Christmas. Most will remember “Cheez Claus” from years past when he marched in Christmas parades and handed out toys. During the COVID pandemic, things were put on hold to avoid the risk of spreading infection.

However, “Cheez Claus,” as he puts it, has come out of hibernation this year and is back in full swing! If anyone has any toys or bikes they’d like to donate to James “Cheez Claus” Smith, please go see him on Pine Street, as today is the last day he will be collecting! We caught up with him standing in the rain, hopeful that kind passerbys would stop with a donation that could help a child this Christmas season.

“Cheez Claus” was all smiles as the rain came down, seemingly unaffected by the chill in the air. At the risk of catching a cold, the kindhearted Smith is still standing outside, patiently awaiting donations. If anyone can help Mr. “Cheez Claus,” there are still a few hours left, so please head down to Pine Street across the street from “The Gettin’ Place.”
