HOT SPRINGS – The amazing ride Bath County was on in 2023 came to an end on the football field Friday night.
On a cold night in Hot Springs, the Chargers were looking to bounce back following their first loss of the season to Narrows from the week before.
However, just like last season ended, so too did theirs this time at the hands of Galax.
In the Class 1, Region C bracket, the 5th-seeded Maroon Tide’s took care of business on the road to knock off the 4th-seeded Chargers 42-7.
Last season GHS hosted BCHS in the regional quarterfinals and won 49-0.
The loss ended a 9-win season for Bath County as they finished 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the district.
The Chargers had a rough time moving the football against the Maroon Tide as they were held to 121 yards total.
After falling behind 20-0 in the first half; BCHS got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter on a 3-yard rushing score from Ethan Bryant.
The hopeful momentum swing just was not there as second half woes continued for Bath County. Just like Narrows did the week before, Galax would score 20 unanswered points behind a huge night from their rushing attack that accounted for 256-yards on the ground as they cruised to their 35-point victory.
Bryant, a sophomore, was a bright side to what was a tough night for the Chargers offense. Bryant had nearly half of the teams’ yards alone as he broke a few long rushes of 13, 15, and 20-yards along with his touchdown.
The season might have come to an end for Bath County, but there’s lots of hope and positivity in Hot Springs for the future of this team. While the program will lose many important pieces from this year’s team, they have a ton of potential returners for next season as well as some talented players that will come from the JV team to varsity.
Galax meanwhile will be back on the road this Friday with a trip to Grayson County to play the top-seeded Blue Devils.
Galax 13 7 15 7 – 42
Bath County 0 7 0 0 – 7
