You might of missed this during the week, but if you were in the Harrisonburg area from this past Saturday into Thursday, you may have seen and even ran into Duane “Dog” Chapman, the reality TV star of Dog the Bounty Hunter, as he made a surprising appearance in Central Virginia over the last week.
This was ‘Dogs” first visit to the Commonwealth State since July of 2017 when he was here for “Miracle Treat Day” at Dairy Queen in Stuarts Draft.
Almost two years later, “Dog” was first spotted at a Kroger in Harrisonburg.  One employee recognized him right away and was able to get a quick photo with him on his way out of the store.
Shortly after being noticed in Kroger, “Dog” was seen dining on the outskirts of Harrisonburg at Vito’s Pizza Pie in Penn Laird.
Employees were quick to recognize him and were able to get a photo with him.
“We were all excited about it (his appearance) and happy that he chose our restaurant and liked our food. His fiance came the day after for some sweets and he (Dog) came back two days after with a group of people to eat again at our restaurant. They were both really nice and funny.  He made some jokes the first night we saw him” said one employee of Vito’s Pizza Pie.
Amidst all the excitement, “Dog” was in Virginia for a reason, to do a job for the Commonwealth State.
Felix Chujoy was a wanted man by the Commonwealth and called in ‘Dog” to do the job and help catch Chujoy.
Chujoy was indicted by a grand jury in Augusta County in May for manufacturing and distributing meth.
The heat was on Chujoy the moment ‘Dog” was seen in Central Virginia.
After a 72 hour search, 12-14 houses visited and with the help of Virginian’s, social media, tips, hotlines and etc. it all eventually led to Chujoy turning himself in to the police.
Chujoy was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at the Middle River Regional Jail.
According to the Augusta County Circuit Court, Chujoy has been charged with the following felony;
18.2-248. Manufacturing, selling, giving, distributing, or possessing with intent to manufacture, sell, give or distribute a controlled substance or an imitation controlled substance prohibited; penalties.
Although it was not ‘Dog” who put the cuffs on Chujoy, he believed his hunt was a major success due to tips and social media help from local civilians.
In a Tweet on Wednesday, ‘Dog” thanked the great people of Virginia for their help and tips that led to Chujoy’s surrender.
As for if this could be on TV (Dog’s Most Wanted) in the near future, “Dog” shared several behind-the-scenes images on his own Instagram account, including one of himself behind the camera.  Now we just wait and see if it does.
SIDE NOTE; Folks who have relatives or friends in the Harrisonburg area whether living in the area or attending one of the colleges (James Madison University, Bridgewater College, etc) may have been to Vito’s Pizza Pie and can tell you all about it.  Or better yet, you can come visit and go to Vito’s Pizza Pie and check it out yourself.  They are located at 4741 Spotswood Trail, Penn Laird, VA 22846.  Check out their website as well https://www.vitopizzapie.com/home
