Michelle Wright, a member of the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council, shared a brief video about the 2023–24 season of performances scheduled to be presented in Covington, Clifton Forge, and the Alleghany Highlands Schools. A key part of her presentation was about the Arts Council being involved in more than just songs, dance and drama.
Since 2019 the Arts Council Community Services Board, Alleghany Highlands School System, League of Older Americans, Historic Masonic Theatre, YMCA, local governments, and more have recently been working together to form strategies for addressing the mental health issues of loneliness and social isolation. The Lighthouse Project this season will allow area youth to explore using words both written and sung to communicate their inner desire to connect with others. There are many wonderful programs in the school system to mentor students in the arts. Purchasing a season ticket is an investment in arts and mental health education for our children, as well as providing an opportunity to personally enjoy wonderful live performances in the Historic Masonic Theatre and the newly renovated Curfman Hall.
