Richard Maxwell “Moose” Key
Richard Maxwell “Moose” Key, age 83, of 637 Verge Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Friday, October 20, 2023, at LewisGale Hospital – Alleghany, Low Moor, Virginia.
Moose was born December 7, 1939, in Clifton Forge to the late Willie William Key and Theressa Viola Peters Key. He was a cook for the former Chesapeake and Ohio Hospital and the “The Bull Pen” YMCA Restaurant. He attended Bread of Life Church and loved spending time on his big porch waving at the truck drivers and motorcycles passing by.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Lewis Key; and two sisters, Thelma T. Brown and Evelyn “E.T.” Broady.
He is survived by three sisters, Geraldine Allen and Catherine Godfrey, both of Clifton Forge, and Carolyn Allen of Iron Gate, and a host of nieces and nephews, including a special niece and two special nephews, Betty Liggins, Attell Allen, and Greg Key.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Apostle Bobby Gleaton officiating. Interment will take place in Red Hill Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Greg Key, William Allen, Jr., Mark Leisure, Gilbert Davis, Kenny Johnson, and Danny Christian. Flower bearers will be Kim Lewis, Nanny West, Wanda Davis, Cynthia Carter, Elmira Twitty, and Sharon Johnson. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home, and also anytime at the home of Geraldine Allen, 709 Mount St., Clifton Forge.
