A change has been announced in regard to the dates for the city representation’s vote for a potential merger of school divisions.
It was previously announced that the Covington City School Board was to hold a public hearing and vote Thursday, Sept. 10, and Covington City Council was to conduct their vote Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Now, both governing bodies will meet jointly Thursday, Sept. 10, at 6:30 p.m., in Covington High School’s Curfman Hall.
The city school board will hold its public hearing in regard to the potential merger and will vote on the issue immediately following the public hearing in a special called meeting pursuant to the Code of Virginia 22.1-79(8).
At the conclusion of the school board’s actions, city council will then conduct their vote on the potential merger.
Tuesday’s meeting at Curfman Hall will follow the joint meeting to be held Monday evening at Clifton Middle School’s Gleason Forum Hall with the Alleghany County School Board and the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors.
