ELLISTON – The Bath County Chargers (7-0, 1-0 Pioneer) football team continued with their unbeaten season on Friday night as they cruised to a 49-0 victory over the Eastern Montgomery Mustangs (2-5, 1-1 Pioneer).
In another dominating performance all-around from Bath County, junior standout Wyatt Campbell once again was at the center of it all as he led the Chargers with five touchdowns in the win.
Campbell finished the game with 289-yds of offense. On the ground Campbell could not be stopped as he racked up 237-yds rushing and added another 52-yds in the air. Campbell would go on to score three rushing touchdowns, including a 76-yd run, and also had two touchdown throws.
Bath County’s offense was centered around the rushing attack as they put together 367-yds on the ground. A.J. St. Clair had 51-yds on two carries, including a 41-yd touchdown run. Luke Turner added over 60-yds in the run game as well. Turner had a nice 51-yd run early in the first quarter that set up the games first points on a Campbell 5-yd touchdown run.
Senior Andrew Turner was 7-for-7 on extra points and also reeled in a 16-yd touchdown pass. Bransen Gordon also had a 10-yd touchdown reception for the Chargers.
On the defensive side of the football, Bath County’s defense continued to impress as they held Eastern Montgomery to just over 100-yds of total offense.
The Chargers defense forced a pair of turnovers in the game and a defensive touchdown. Cooper Lowry and Ethan Bryant had fumble recoveries. Bryant took his fumble recovery 64-yds to the end zone which put the team up 14-0 late in the first quarter. Dillan Royer also had a forced fumble.
It was the defense’s second straight shutout and their third in the last four games.
Bath County led 28-0 at halftime.
The win over the Mustangs was the Chargers district opener. This week the team will head back home to Carl F. Williams Field for another district showdown with the Craig County Rockets (2-4, 0-2 Pioneer). The Rockets lost on the road Friday to Parry McCluer 45-12.
