On Tuesday night, October 10th, the Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity volleyball teams traveled to Patrick County High School to face off once again since September 14th. The last time the JV team played against the Patrick County Cougars, they shut them out in a 2-up, 2-down victory. All eyes were on the Lady Cougars to see if history would repeat itself. It did.

As before, the JV Lady Cougars rose to the occasion and spiked their way into another 2-up, 2-down victory against the Patrick County Cougars, scoring another win for the long-undefeated JV volleyball team. With the season’s end just around the corner, it seems there’s no stopping these incredible athletes from finishing with the same spotless record they’ve held onto since the first game.

The JV Lady Cougars, led by head coach Kelsey Young, said in an interview over a month ago that she tells the girls to “stop them early and you’re good.” Fans have seen that mantra play out all season, with JV holding strong to a 2-up, 2-down season in most of their games. It will be interesting to see if these girls keep their unblemished record, but I wouldn’t bet against them.

Meanwhile, the Varsity Cougars had their chance to take on Patrick County at 7 p.m. following the JV team on Tuesday night. In similar form, the Varsity Lady Cougars held their own against the rival Cougars headquartered in Stuart, Virginia, holding them off to a 3-1 victory.

Led by Coach Charles Leitch, the Varsity volleyball team has seen similar success as the younger Lady Cougars. Their current 17-4 record is a complete turnaround from last year when the team was unable to see the same success. In all likelihood, this is due to the tremendous coaching team and hard work, dedication, and teamwork from all the players.

As the season winds down, fans are eager to see how both girls’ volleyball teams finish the season. It is evident they both possess the athletic ability and prowess to rise victorious over their opponents.
