Ray Clinton “Sonny” Norvell
Ray Clinton “Sonny” Norvell, age 87, of 1137 Madison Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia died Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
Sonny was born June 7, 1936, in Iron Gate, Virginia to the late Stuart Lee Norvell and Mattie Mae Plogger Norvell. He was a lab technician for A.E.T., Inc., and served in the Virginia National Guard for 2 years. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a former member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge and the Jaycees. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees and also UVA sports. He was 100 % a family man who especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed feeding all types of wildlife in his backyard, taking rides with his wife, Barbara, and spending time with his cat, George.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Norvell, two sisters, Ruth Rhodenizer and Fay Ruff; and a nephew, Charles Ruff.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Krimm Norvell; a daughter, Tracey O’Connor and husband Jeff of Clifton Forge; a granddaughter, Taylor Mejia and wife Vanessa; a grandson, Derek O’Connor and wife Emily, and their baby girl on the way; as well as a number of nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Michael Francis and a special niece, Doris Rogers.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted on Friday, September 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor with Father Augustine Lukenge officiating. Entombment will immediately follow.
