ConnectionsPlus Healthcare/Hospice sponsored Part One of a six-part presentation on gathering life’s vital information at the YMCA’s activities center, last Friday from 1:30 p.m-3:30 p.m.

The 10-seat class was at capacity to begin the process of putting their “ducks in a row”. They were given large binders with the “Life in Motion” guide for gathering life’s vital information with the permission of Karen Purze, author.

Inside the binder tabs to identify information, therein, and spaces to fill out and track vital information, such as financial and property information, final wishes, estate matters, etc.

Jennifer Slusser, Director of Operations, facilitated the two-hour event. She began by explaining the different tabs in the binder, such as things to take for hospital stays, a checklist to help to plan for hospital discharges, emergency contacts, medical information, lock codes for phones, and a place for a photo; “some things to think about that you normally would not think about,” said Slusser.

“This program is the first-time offering in Alleghany County,” said Cassie Scott, Administrative & Volunteer Support Specialist. It started before the COVID-19 pandemic and like many other things, it had to be shut down, explained Scott. “It has just re-started, and we wanted to bring it to the area,” added Scott. Scott believes the program offers some important things “that people don’t want to talk or think about and believes it’s important “to have all of your information in a binder.”

Further into the program, there will be homework assignments for class participants and presentations from professionals from the real estate and financial sectors to answer questions and offer advice on matters involving their areas of expertise.

At the end of this six-month program, the class participants will be more educated on important matters, they will have a binder full of vital information, and will participate in a “show and tell.” “I’m hoping to plan this program after 5:00 pm, for the working demographic especially those nearing retirement,” said Scott in conclusion.

The one-day a month, six-month program costs $20 for the binder and core material. ConnectionsPlus can be contacted at (540) 862-8820 and www.connectionsplus.care for further information.
