Heavy rain and gusts of wind caused damage throughout Covington at about 4:00 this afternoon. A tree fell across the road on Edgemont Drive blocking the road and causing an undetermined amount of damage to two apartment buildings owned by Garten Development.
There were no injuries and emergency personnel from Covington Fire and First Aid Departments as well as Covington City Police and City of Covington maintenance personnel were on the scene. While it “appears” that the tree caused minor damage to the exterior of the buildings it fell across a power line to the apartments and Adam Kirby, spokesperson for Garten Development said the power is out in the buildings and electrical outlets with burn marks show an undetermined amount of damage inside each building.
Tree limbs and leaves scattered the roads all through the area. A tree fell on top of a vehicle near Carpenter Drive and underpasses downtown were flooded. No injuries have been reported. Route 18 is closed to through traffic at the Route 220 intersection (top of town hill).
