WOODSTOCK – The Covington Lumberjacks on the road outlasted the Woodstock River Bandits 9-6 on Friday, June 9th at the Central High School Baseball Complex.
Covington collected 11 hits in the team’s third win of the season. Michael Pavelchak led the Jacks’ with season-high four-hit day at the plate, where he also had a pair of RBIs and two runs scored.
The Jacks’ scored all nine of their runs from the third inning to the eighth.
Kyle Pijaszek picked up the win out from the bullpen. Pijaszek allowed two runs on three hits in two innings in lieu of starter Daniel McAuliff who gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits in four innings where he struck out six. Austin Newton notched his second save of the season after striking out a pair in the ninth where he gave up one hit.
Despite the loss Woodstock outhit Covington 12-11. Thomas Sanchez and Hunter Smith led the River Bandits with three hits each. Sanchez also belted his first home run of the season.
