JoAnn Boggs Lowe Ralsten
Mrs. JoAnn Boggs Lowe Ralsten, age 80, of Covington, died Sunday, June 18, 2023, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor. She was the wife of James Wesley Ralsten to whom she was married to for thirty years.
JoAnn was born May 26, 1943, at the C&O Hospital in Clifton Forge and in that moment God decided to place her in the loving care of Theodore and Margaret Boggs. After living in Alvon, WV for a number of years, JoAnn returned to the area in 1959. She was employed as a secretary by Loving Funeral Home for several years before “retiring” to work with her son, Clay, at his flower shop, The Little Clay Pot. Mrs. Ralsten was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. JoAnn was an avid card maker who enjoyed sending those beautiful works of art to her family, friends and to brighten the day of residents in the local nursing homes. Most of all, the things that truly made her happy were being in the kitchen cooking for and spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband, James Ralsten, Mrs. Ralsten is survived by three sons, Clayton T. Lowe of Covington, Jeffery M. Lowe and wife, Brenda of Covington and John W. Ralsten of Dayton, OH; a daughter, Jennifer V. Ralsten of Richmond; three grandchildren, Caleb Lowe of Harrisonburg, Kara A. McCallister and husband, Nathan and Chase Bratton of Mooresville, NC; a brother, Tim Boggs of Alvon, WV; two sisters, Marilyn B. Tokarski and husband, Chet of Phoenix, MD and Debra M. Kemp and husband, Tom of Baltimore, MD; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Theodore and Margaret Boggs, Mrs. Ralsten was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia B. Macko.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2023, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Kropff officiating, assisted by Bob McCallister and Pat Martin. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Caleb Lowe, Nathan McCallister, Tom Elmore, Benjamin Elmore and George Catlett, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at Loving Funeral Home.
