Lisa Sponaugle has been named as the interim director of the Alleghany Highlands Regional Library.
Sponaugle will begin serving as interim director on July 1, following the retirement of current Library Director Lisa Hicks, who is retiring after 20 years of service to the library.
Sponaugle, who has worked as the library’s Technical Services Coordinator for four years, was appointed as interim by the AHRL Board of Trustees at their April meeting. She received her bachelor’s degree from Virginia Tech in 1997 in the field of Human Services. She is currently pursuing her master’s degree in library science and information Services at LSU. Lisa is married to Matt Sponaugle, General Manager of Cliff View Golf Club, Inn & The Brewhouse in Falling Spring. She and Matt have two children, Brandon (21) and Kellen (18).
“We’re grateful Lisa has agreed to serve as our interim director,” said board chairman Tom Long. “Having her as interim will allow the board to conduct its search for a new director while knowing the day-to-day operations of the library are in good hands.”
The AHRL is one of four libraries in Virginia who are searching for a new director. According to the Library of Virginia, some of these searches have lasted as long as two years.
The library’s personnel committee has begun the search for a new director and is currently accepting applications for the position. For more information, please visit the library’s website at www.ahrl.org.
