COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Calling all theater kids! After a pandemic hiatus, Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will roll back into Covington next week with their production of “King Arthur’s Quest.”
Presented each year by the Alleghany Highlands Arts Council, MCT has a long tradition in the community. Their “little red truck” pulls into town full of costumes, lights and sets, and then two professional actor/directors teach songs, staging, lines and choreography in morning and afternoon sessions each day.
Any child in first through 12th grade is encouraged to audition. There is never any cost to participate. Any child who has completed kindergarten is eligible. This includes recently graduated high school seniors. No prepared audition piece is needed.
Auditions start promptly at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 12, on the stage in the gymnasium at Boys Home, just west of the Covington city limits on Route 60. Rehearsals run from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. each day during the week with two performances on Saturday, June 17, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Not all cast members will have a rehearsal call during each daily segment, but families must commit to attending all rehearsals and performances.
The Arts Council has presented Missoula Children’s Theatre in the community since 1995 and is pleased to have Boys Home Inc. as a partner in this year’s venture. Funding support is provided by the Alleghany Foundation, the Frances P. Rupert Memorial Scholarship Fund, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
The public can get more information by calling 540-962-ARTS (2787) or visiting the Arts Council’s Facebook fan page.
