COVINGTON, Va. (VR) – Pearson’s Appraisal Service Inc. has completed the fieldwork for the city of Covington 2023 general reassessment of real estate, which will become effective on July 1. The Code of Virginia mandates that each locality periodically performs a general reassessment of real estate to determine each property’s fair market value and to equalize each property’s value in relation to similar properties.
The reassessment notices were mailed on May 22 to all real estate property owners in the city of Covington. The notice will show them the new reassessment value for fiscal year 2023-2024 and the amount of tax at the current tax rate. The new tax rate has not been established, and a public hearing will be held after July 1 to discuss the tax rate. Those who did not receive a reassessment notice and own real estate in the city of Covington are instructed to call the reassessment office at 540-965-6351 to request a copy.
