Hot Springs — Eliza Jane Ryder McGuffin Bogan, 96, of Hot Springs, Virginia passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at her daughters’ residence in Hot Springs.
She was born October 8, 1923 in Bath County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Cameron Warwick Ryder and Rachel Jane Carpenter Ryder.
Mrs. Bogan was employed as an electronic technician for NASA contractors in Greenbelt, Maryland.
She was a member of the Hot Springs Baptist Church, the Ladies Lunch Bunch, the Red Hat Ladies, and the Gold Star Wives of America. She loved her garden and was a great cook. Mrs. Bogan enjoyed bowling and loved to write poetry. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother or as her grandchildren lovingly referred to her as “Nana.”
She was married to the late Adam Randolph McGuffin who was killed in WWII. She later married Hubert Theodore Bogan who preceded her in death on December 8, 1989.
She is survived by three children, Gerald R. McGuffin and wife Ruth of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Ronald E. Bogan and wife Elke of Waldorf, Maryland, Jane Camacho and husband John of Hot Springs, Virginia; nine grandchildren, Pastor Sherry McGuffin-Bays of Petoskey, Michigan, Gerald R. McGuffin, Jr. and life partner Sherri of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Amanda McGuffin-Noll and husband Doug of Westerville, Ohio, Daniel Bogan of Eugene, Oregon, Sandy Bogan of Waldorf, Maryland, Cam Bogan of Charleston, South Carolina, Edward Bogan and wife Katie of Waldorf, Maryland, John Camacho, Jr. of Roanoke, Virginia and Rachel Camacho and partner Eric Gentry of Hot Springs; two step-granddaughters, Jennifer Turlington and partner Frank of Hampton, Virginia, and Laura Hawkins and husband Dean of Newport News, Virginia; twelve great-grandchildren, Mac, Tucker, Corbin, Katherine, Chloe, Abby, Olivia, Eden, Azure, Camas, Hudson, and Gage; three great-great-grandchildren, Harlow, Callum and Greyson; and a sister, Lottie Rosencrance of Maryland.
In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Hubert C. Bogan, a great-granddaughter, Claudia Rose Bogan, and twelve brothers and sisters.
A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9, 2020 at the Warm Springs Cemetery with Reverend Sherry McGuffin-Days officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Doris L. Via Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 174, Hot Springs, Virginia 24445.
