Hillsville, VA – Fourteen up, 14 down.

Following Tuesday’s 13-5 Three Rivers District victory over the Carroll County Cavaliers, the Alleghany Mountaineers have moved one step closer to an undefeated regular season.

After two scoreless innings of baseball, the Mounties broke the game open with a nine-run third inning, with the big bat coming from Hunter DePriest who delivered a grand-slam home run which put the team ahead at the time 6-0.

Helping his own cause out with offensive production, DePriest who took the mound for the Mounties pitched a complete-game victory. Although he did run into some trouble in the third inning as the Cavaliers scored five runs. DePriest settled down after the third to retire 12 of the final 14 batters he faced out. DePriest struck out nine in the win.

The Mountaineers offense continued backing DePriest on the mound with a four run fifth inning to increase their lead to eight runs. Garrett Via and Kole Caldwell had RBIs in the inning.

Benjamin Phillips led the Cavs with a two-RBI performance, while Tyler Rakes suffered the loss after giving up nine runs (one earned), on six hits in 2.2 innings on the mound.

It was a hit parade for the Mounties who erupted for 11 in the game. Chris Harden led all hitters with three hits in three at-bats, while also driving in a run. Eli Weese and Conner McPeek each drove in two runs as well.

The Mounties at 14-0 overall and 7-0 in the district have just four games to go in the regular season. On Thursday they are on the road against the James River Knights (they won 12-2). They beat the Knights in Low Moor 7-1 on April 25th.
