SWOOPE, VA – The Covington Lady Cougars (6-5) fell for the second game in a row following an 11-2 loss on the road against the Buffalo Lady Gap of the Shenandoah District.

Bailey Talley (2-for-4) led the Lady Bison offense with a three RBI performance, while Caroline Alger (W/3-for-4), Karan Richie (1-for-4), and Sadie Patterson (1-for-4) each had two RBI’s.

While Alger led the team with a three-hit day at the plate, she also took home the win after a stellar performance on the mound. After giving up two runs in the first inning, went on to shut out the Lady Cougars in the following six innings. Alger finished the day with allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings where she also struck out 12 batters.

Kayla Bartley (L/1-for-3) battled on the mound with Alger. Bartley did suffer the loss after giving up 11 runs (seven earned) on 11 hits. However, Bartley did strike put 10 which put her season total to 63 on the season. Bartley was also at the center of the only runs scored for the Lady Cougars offense. In the first inning, Bartley ripped a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence which at the time put the team ahead 2-0.

Gabby Marshall (2-for-3) led the team with two hits. Marshall was the only Lady Cougar with a multi-hit performance.

The Lady Cougars will only have two days to take some time to recuperate before their Pionner District showdown with the Craig County Lady Rockets at the Jackson River Sports Complex on Thursday.
