LEWISBURG, WV – Winners of six of their last seven games, the Covington Lady Cougars (6-4/3-0) have been rolling as of late, including a 3-0 start to their Pioneer District schedule.
Their hot streak hit a bump in the road this past Friday evening after not only being shut out, but also held to just one hit in their five-inning loss to the Greenbrier East Lady Spartans.
Josi Ervin (W/1-for-3) was sensational on the mound for the Lady Spartan as she went all five innings where she gave up just one hit, one walk, and struck out 10.
The Lady Spartans offense was centered around Taylor Boswell (3-for-3), Lilly Carolla (1-for-3), and Olivia Plybon (2-for-2) who each had two RBI’s a piece. Carolla had a two-run home run in the first inning.
Addison Morris (1-for-2) provided the Lady Cougars lone hit in the game which came on a two-out double in the top half of the fourth inning. Kayla Bartley (L/0-for-1) suffered the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits in 2.2 innings. Bartley was also the only other runner to reach base for the Lady Cougars offense. Bartley drew a walk in the first inning with two outs. Serenity Campbell also saw the mound where she gave up six runs (four earned) in 1.1 innings.
On Monday the Lady Cougars are on the road once again in a non-district game with the Buffalo Gap Lady Bison in Swoope, VA.
