STAUNTON, VA – The Riverheads Lady Gladiators (3-0) used a big six-run third inning to help cruise to a 13-3 victory over the Covington Lady Cougars (0-2) on Monday evening.

Maggie Robertson (4-for-4) was spectacular at the plate as she put together a four-hit, six RBI performance, along with a home run for the Lady Gladiators. Whitney Abshire (3-for-4) also had a three-hit performance, along with a game-ending two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning which put the team up 10 runs and ended due to the VHSL 10-run mercy rule.

Meanwhile, Destiny Good (W) was solid on the mound for the Lady Gladiators. Good went six innings where she allowed four runs (two earned) on seven hits, while walking one, and striking out eight.

Taylor Stayton (3-for-3) led the Lady Cougars with a three-hit performance. Tyra Rose (1-for-3) had two RBI’s, while Laken Cantrell (2-for-4) had an RBI as well.

Kayla Bartley suffered the loss after tossing 5.1 innings of work where she gave up 13 runs (nine earned) on 15 hits, while walking one, and striking out three.

The win for the Lady Gladiators was their second against the Lady Cougars this season and in as many days. The Lady Gladiators shut out the Lady Cougars 5-0 last Thursday at the Jackson River Sports Complex.
