ROANOKE, VA – The Covington Lady Cougars (1-2) picked up their first win of the season on Wednesday following a 13-1 victory on the road against the Roanoke Catholic Lady Celtics.

Tyra Rose (4-for-4) put on a hitting display at the plate with a four-hit, two RBI performance. The Lady Cougars finished with 11 team hits. Addison Morris (1-for-3) and Kayla Bartley (W/1-for-2) each had two RBI’s as well. Laken Cantrell (2-for-3) also added a two-hit day, including a triple.

While the offense was great, so was the Lady Cougars pitching. The Lady Cougars used three pitchers to combine for a one-hitter. Bartley, who picked up the win, went three innings where she allowed just one hit. Kyra Leonard (1-for-3) led off the bottom of the first inning and doubled off Bartley. After that, the Lady Celtics were kept off the hit column.

Rose and Serenity Campbell (1-for-3) each pitched one shutout inning in relief of Bartley.

Alyssa Leonard (0-for-2) drove in the only run for the Lady Celtics.

The Lady Cougars controlled the game from the very first at bat. Cantrell led the game off with a triple and scored on an RBI single by Rose. Brooklyn Hicks (1-for-3) drove in Rose with an RBI single.

The Lady Celtics would get a run back in the home half of the first inning via an infield single by A. Leonard.

After adding three runs in the second inning all with two outs, the Lady Cougars would break the game open with a seven-run fourth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run double by Bartley.

The game would end following the bottom of the fifth inning due to the 12-run mercy rule.
