The Alleghany Highlands Arts Council will bring some Celtic spirit to the Alleghany Highlands on Tuesday, March 21 as they present The National Dance Company of Ireland, performing “Rhythm of the Dance” at the Historic Masonic Theatre beginning at 7:00 pm.
After three years hamstrung by the pandemic, Kieran Cavanaugh’s Irish extravaganza returns, melding Irish songs, music, and dance the continued Celtic influence on the country’s modern culture through the story-telling of Ireland’s history, from its mythological beginnings to the days of immigration to where it stands today.
In its 24th year of touring, Rhythm of the Dance is world-renowned, having performed on stages in 51 countries, including Australia, France, Thailand, and Egypt. Audiences have witnessed the unique blending of ancient Irish history with traditional dancing. Intertwined with Irish favorites, like Danny Boy and Star of County Down, theatre-goers receive an authentic taste of the Emerald Isle.
The performance is underwritten by the Alleghany Foundation. Other funding is provided by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Covington, Alleghany County, and the Town Of Clifton Forge. Corporate co-sponsors for the event are WestRock, Highlands Community Bank, and Dr. Scott Brown & Associates.
The cost of the performance is $20 for adults and $8 for students, either in advance or at the door. Tickets are available online at https://historicmasonictheatre.com/masonic-event/alleghany-highlands-arts-council-presents-rhythm-of-the-dance/
