Law enforcement agencies and parks and recreation departments of the
Alleghany Highlands, are excited to announce the annual “YOUTH DAY RODEO” that
will take place on Saturday May 6, 2023 at the Jackson River Sport Complex in Covington.
The event will start at 10 am and conclude at 1pm.
Held annually, since 1997, and up to the start of the Covid Pandemic, the event was
formally known as the Alleghany Highlands Bike Rodeo. According to
Lieutenant CM Fisher, of the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, “the rodeo has been
successful, and continued to grow over the years.” “This event is one of our biggest
community outreach programs, and has instilled the value of teaching safety to area youth,
as well as promoting good rapport between the police and our youth in the Highlands.”
The Youth Day Rodeo will feature bicycle give away’s, along with helmets, Wal-Mart gift
cards, games, entertainment from area youth, as well as free snacks and drinks. The youth
day rodeo will be for ages 4-14 years old.
Registration will be the morning of the event starting at 8am. Just show up and
participants will be directed where to go. Participants are asked NOT to bring bicycles.
“Last year the attendance was over 400, and it was great to see so many participate,
especially, after a two year absence, because of covid,” said Alleghany County Sheriff
Kevin Hall.
