Dear Editor,
I read with great interest the letter from Dr. Crandall regarding the COVID-19 outbreak and how it has impacted our community.
Stating Covington’s and Alleghany County’s case rate as compared to significantly affected worst hit states is a very sobering scenario.
Then I had the opportunity to read Mayor Tom Sibold’s Facebook message.
He spoke of great pride and independence of the Alleghany people, which I acknowledge.
However, one needs to remember that pride goeth before the fall, and as a COVID-19 patient himself, as reported in the Virginian Review, one would think that Mayor Sibold would have more respect for the advice and guidance of Gov. Northam, a physician.
The numbers for Covington, Alleghany County and Bath County have been increasing at an alarming rate, as reported daily in the Roanoke Times.
Some of these people won’t be joining us for Christmas, or for 2021.
Did they wear masks, or did someone near them not wear one? Or wear one wrong, placing it below their noses?
This is not a political issue neighbors, it means lives, yours and mine.
I have been limiting my exposure, not going into stores who don’t enforce mask wearing, or even one who gives non-health related excuses to folks not to wear a mask.
Please, I implore you, wear your mask, show you care.
Otherwise, you’ll be on Santa’s naughty list.
Sincerely,
Nick Williams
