There’s a new Sheriff in town in Roanoke City. Last week, ahead of former Sheriff Tim Allen’s impending retirement from the department, the city swore-in David K. Bell as sheriff for the final year of Allen’s four-year term.
In a social media post dated Monday, February 1, officials from the Sheriff’s office said, “Sheriff David K. Bell took his Oath for the Office of Roanoke City Sheriff last week in anticipation of his term beginning today, February 1, 2021. With Sheriff Allen’s retirement leaving one year on his second term, Bell was appointed.”

“He has been serving the City of Roanoke for almost 29-years with the Roanoke Sheriff’s Office, spending the last 11-years as Chief Deputy.
Congratulations, Sheriff Bell!”
Bell was sworn in as Sheriff by the Honorable Judge Christopher Clemons. Bell’s wife Marcia was beside him during the swearing-in ceremony.
“He (Bell) is well-qualified for the position,” officials from the Roanoke Sheriff’s office told the Virginian Review. “We’re excited to have him serving as our sheriff for the next couple of months.”
