In honor of her husband’s memory, Charlene Hammond, the widow of the late Reverend Gordon Hammond, has made a generous donation for the Sensory Trail on behalf of the members of the Lighthouse Apostolic Church.
Charles “Chuck” Unroe, the town manager of Clifton Forge, remarked, “Clifton Forge has broken ground on the new Sensory Trail to be established along the existing Smith Creek Trail in the area previously known as the jungle.”
“This will be a tremendous asset to the Town’s trail system and will provide activities and interactive stations to stimulate all seven senses of the body,” he continued.
Clifton Forge Mayor Jeff Irvine praised Clifton Forge Public Works for the quality of the work accomplished downstream from Clifton Forge High School to date.
Irwin said, “Public Works is doing a marvelous job in preparing for the opening that we are projecting for May.”
Unroe noted that the installation of the Sensory Trail is being handled by the Town of Clifton Forge’s Parks and Trails Committee Courtney Howard heads up for the Town.
Mayor Irvine expressed his thanks to Unroe, Howard and the Parks and Trails Committee’s members for a job well done.
“This wonderful and very much needed addition to our community has been made possible through a very generous donation from Mrs. Charlene Hammond on behalf of the members of the Lighthouse Apostolic Church and in honor and memory of her husband, the late Reverend Gordon Hammond who was the founding minister of the church,” Unroe revealed.
Once the Sensory Trail is completed, Unroe and Irvine acknowledged that it will be dedicated to the memory of Reverend Hammond at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
